A person calling himself Tim McMahon has been contacting member of the community pretending to be a deputy Sheriff here in Erie County.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t

McMahon is telling people that he is going to issue citations for Failure to Appear in court and also Contempt citations unless money is paid to him. He also gives out FALSE citation numbers to encourage compliance with his attempt to scam people out of their money.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t

The Erie County Sheriff\u2019s Office does NOT employ anybody with that name. The Sheriff\u2019s Office will NEVER contact any member of the public requesting money to avoid arrest or have a citation issued.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t

The Erie County Sheriff\u2019s Office is led by Sheriff Chris Campanelli, who was elected in 2022. The Office is responsible for providing professional law enforcement services throughout Erie County, Pennsylvania, while upholding the Constitution of the United States and the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t

The Sheriff\u2019s Office employs approximately 40 full-time Deputy Sheriffs, along with approximately 10 civilian, support, and per diem personnel. Together, these members serve the residents of Erie County through court security, civil process service, warrant enforcement, prisoner transport, and other essential public safety functions.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t
