$9.00 plus $0.17 a mile from where you live to the courthouse

Parking

Ramp Q on Peach St. between 7th and 8th St. Parking here is not reimbursed, but discounted to $4.00 or $5.00 (If over 8 hours)

  • If you have a handicap placard, you can park wherever you are most comfortable, as long as the placard is visible. You do not need to feed any meters either. Prepare a note before your date of service with the make, model, color of your vehicle, and license plate number; the Parking Authority will be notified on your behalf, and you will NOT be ticketed.

Cell Phones

Are permitted and free to use during jury service, if locked up at security, they will be unlocked if presented at Room 207 for jury service check-in

Excusals

Medical – Must be faxed from your doctor’s office requesting your exemption, can indicate permanently. No medical history or specific condition is necessary.
Caregiver – Must be faxed from the person you caregive for’s doctor’s office. No medical history or specific condition is necessary.
Language barrier – Must be faxed from the individual who has a language barrier’s doctor’s office or a verified translation agency.
Non-citizen – Fax a copy of the permanent residency card, visa, etc.

Firearms/Weapons

These are not permitted. If you are law enforcement or security, please check your firearms with the sheriff’s deputies at the 6th St. entrance to the courthouse.

Length of Service

One day or one trial, when you enter the courtroom the attorneys on the case will let you know how long the trial is expected to last. If you were not picked to sit on a trial, your service is considered complete, and you will NOT be rescheduled to another date.

  • If there are any reasons why you CANNOT serve as a juror on a trial, the attorneys will make the determination on whether to dismiss you or not. Court Administration and the Jury Coordinator’s staff do not have the authority to make this determination before entry to the courtroom.
  • You may go home early if the case settles or the defendant on trial takes a plea.
  • When you report for jury service, even if you did not sit on a trial, you will be excused from jury service for a minimum of 1 year.
  • If selected to sit on a trial, you will be excused from jury service for a minimum of 1 year as well at the conclusion of the trial or a minimum of 3 years if the trial lasts longer than 3 days.

Employer

Your employer is legally required to let you attend jury service and cannot punish you for attending your civic duty.

  • Paperwork will be provided to indicate your attendance and pay for the length of your service.
  • PLEASE let your employer know about your date of service IMMEDIATELY upon your receival of the summons.
